#VarsityShoutout to Jordie Tshimpaka! He is currently studying Pharmacology on a bursary at the University of Toledo, Ohio in the USA. In his matric year, a close family friend also studying there encouraged Jordie to apply for the many scholarship opportunities available to international students. In September 2019, Jordie made the leap and applied. Despite the countless procedures he had to go through, he was overjoyed when he heard that he was accepted. In the midst of the pandemic, and in a foreign country away from home on his own, he managed to kickstart his university career in the USA.
“This field of study has been quite a challenge, I have to take a lot of chemistry classes and even though I can do it, I’m not the greatest fan of chemistry. I’m doing really well in school with a 3.4 GPA which is about 89%. In terms of education I am always determined to succeed and I will keep moving forward until I achieve my goals.”
Not only is he excelling academically, he’s also quite immersed in Campus life. He spends his free time engaging societal clubs such as the African People’s Association and holds the treasurer position of the Congolese Students Association. We can’t wait to see what more Jordie has in store!
