Each year students for a better future prepare the new scholars who enter the high school scholarship programme at Saturday workshops. This year the six month long preparatory programme for our 2019 intake scholars commenced on Saturday 23 June 2018.
The grade 7 scholars and parents were invited for an Introductory Workshop which outlined the details of the scholarship offer. During the preparatory programme scholars and parents are equipped with information and skills to make navigating the transition to high school easier.
Scholars attended sessions that included study skills workshops; English and Math academic extension and life skills development. The staff had a chance to explain the and the importance of the grade 7 preparatory programme and the transition into grade 8 starting in 2019. Furthermore, families had an opportunity to discuss expectations and concerns in the first preparatory programme session.

On Saturday 1 September, the grade 7 scholars took their SBF portrait pictures in their SBF branded golf-shirt. The scholars were very excited to receive their SBF golf-shirts as they felt like this was one-step closer to being a part of the SBF family.
Saturday the 27th of October the final Prep Programme Parent Workshop for the new scholars took place. Parents were able to further understand the requirements of the SBF scholarship both for their child and for them as parents. This workshop focussed on the specifics of commencing high school. Issues such as uniform; textbooks; extra-curricular activities and school academic demands were discussed. Grade 7 scholars had a high tea picnic on the beautiful lawn of Gardens Commercial High School whilst their parents engaged with the SBF staff in the parent workshop.
